this week: new bishop + better days ahead?
{pictures from the night of Vespers}
She died April 24 2019. I was still very sleep deprived, and my sleep schedule off....I remember being up around 5am and scrolling through Facebook before 7am mass to find that we were chosen a new bishop. I went to mass and it was announced there. then we found out he was saying a noon mass, so we all went. I think I slept through most of it...its all a blur, those days were kind of a blur....
I don't know why---maybe from all the storms that night, or maybe its mild depression, or who really knows... the night of vespers with our new Bishop was a hard night. I should really be more excited about having a new bishop but, I may forever associate him with her....
Parking was a disaster to begin with, as I was directed to park in a handicap sport (I nearly lost my mind!). Once in the church, I had some writing time. I really tried to be excited about what was happening. but, even Bishop's homily made me think of her when he said "God never seems to call the qualified, he qualifies the called". (How true it is!)
I was tear eyed the whole night and burst into tears 4 times with the Magnificat, The Salve Regina, "you called John the baptist to give testimony to you by his life and even his death" and "remember those who have died, give them a place of light, happiness and peace".
I was kind of a wreck that night.
I was a bit surprised that I made it through the entire installation mass the next day with no tears.
65 days after her death. I made it through the ordination mass with no tears, but fell asleep during it at least twice and I did not care.
Again, the night of the ordination, I realized that I should have more excitement for the happenings around me, but I'm just so scattered & distracted or something....
I was slightly disappointing that the new priests didn't offer their hands for the kissing of the hands after the first blessings that night, as she was the one who taught me to do that at Father P's first mass year.
Today, at a first mass of a priest whose mom died 10 years ago, I cried each time the new priest or his dad cried. Its like I couldn't hold back tears. and the last time I saw a priest cry, and I think the only time, was at her funeral.
Tomorrow, I had planned on taking her to a Latin mass first mass (since our last first mass was such a success-NOT!). she should be there. I planned to bring her. but she's not. and I'm going "alone". I won't get front row seating like last year and who knows what tears the day may bring.....

Update:
I have pretty much ditched the "40 steps to Easter" booklet from Dumb Ox pub--and I don't have a great reason why... I was reading with my friend nearly every day, but, I didn't pre-read (ever!) when I should have and awkwardly read things out loud to her (like I read "thank you for the gift of being able to walk" (which was in the book) when she hasn't been able to walk in almost 20 years...so that was...awkward), so I kind of stopped bringing the book to her house. and sure, I could read it to myself, but the daily sections are so short that it feels like some thing I *should/could* read with her, so mentally It feels like I *can't/shouldn't* read it with myself...its complicated. but I've basically ditched it and I don't think/plan on going back to it (even though I could...)
I have been saying the stations of the cross by myself nearly every day, and this was a goal of mine. I use either my document or the Catholic All Year ones. I've said it with my friend not as often as I had envisioned us, but we have a handful of times. I have also found that I don't have enough breath (or something) to say a rosary and the stations in one day with her, so I usually choose the rosary because it's *generally* a smoother experience.
My Lenten readings have gone...mostly well. There's no zeal or anything or but the habit is there. I'm looking forward to starting a new book or two soon.
I have been going to low mass pretty much every day it was offered this lent (I overslept at least a few mornings...)
So, I guess, you could say that lent has been pretty fruitful this year.

Feast of St Brigid, Candlemas Day! & St Blaise (2/1, 2/2 & 2/3):: it feels like spring!
2/1
St Brigid is who I chose as my confirmation saint. I remember not being able to decide on a confirmation name (I don't remember who the contenders were), and I was at DTS one night and the Saint of the Night was St Brigid of Ireland. I don't know what overcame me but it was then and there that I decided on my confirmation name/saint. Later on I said, because she is a patron of dairy workers, saying that it was my first year showing dairy that year. (That doesn't seem like a great reason to me, but I am the same person who named a calf "Pius" because Pope Pius X is my favorite pope, so I guess sometimes my logic doesn't make sense...) That night, after DTS was over, I went up to our leader, the one and only Eddie Cotter, and announced that I had decided on my confirmation saint that night as we turned off all the lights. I don't remember what else that happened but he did give me a printout of his notes for the night on her. I still think that she is really fascinating and "folky".
Audio:
the life of St Brigid
I really didn't do much to celebrate this day, except have a party in my head.
This day was also the feast of St Ignatius of Antioch. I went to Low Mass and read about him in Character Calendar.
2/2

Here's to our next liturgical living marathon!

the liturgical year--end of January (1/1/5/19-1/31/19)
Update on goals:
-I have not been making smashing progress on my goals. (I still haven't gone to mass any more times in January than I did in December, but also, Mass has been canceled a few days toward the end of the month (on account of freezing frigidity); I've gotten in a handful of rosaries but not many; I have done some reading but nothing particularly robust day to day--wrestling meets are great for lots of reading.)
Update peg dolls:
-my "Father Oak" peg doll has been working as planned, I look in my missal to see what color to put out.
-my mom says that the FSSJ nuns where black and not Navy Blue (which is what I remember), so my FSSJ nun's colors are wrong, but the message still gets across of who it is. I was so sure that they wore Navy blue....
-my other peg dolls are doing great :)
What I've been up to?
-Getting ready for February feast days with books, charts, lists, plans, prints and such. The last few days of January until the first few days of February my sister and I are house sitting for someone, although I will be at my house/out and about during daytime, I will be living out of a suitcase in the afternoons/night, so I do not have any robust plans--yet--for the beginning of February except for the feast of St Brigid ("my" feast day).
-Planning/organizing/preparing for Lent: making prints, making a Microsoft Word document of charts/lists, making a pile of books I already have, writing down feast days to celebrate, finding art, thinking of what books I want to read, gathering things, seeing if there are any new books I will buy this year, considering calendars from Dumb Ox pub, finding Stations of the Cross, making plans....
I have the option to get a peg dolls set of the Passion, but I don't know, peg dolls seem to festive of art for the passion, so I might not get them...Last year, and maybe the year before, I tried to go for pretty bare decor for Lent, especially during Holy week, instead of covering everything up with purple cloth, I took all of my religious pictures and statues away (which were a bit less in number last year). My desk and wall were so bare, and this was before I had my cube shelf, so I had less space. It was nice to put all of my pictures back up on Easter Sunday (actually I probably did it after the Easter Vigil mass), it was refreshing. So, I am thinking I will do that again. I want to go for a more "plain" look for Lenten decor.
Other updates:
-I have been using Pinterest again and have a page (board?) for potential peg dolls, one for the liturgical year and one for art that I like/want.
-I basically "quit" Evernote
-I am excitedly using Microsoft Word again
New book!:
(I opened it for the first time at a wrestling meet this past weekend, hence the busy background)
This is such a great book!! and amazing addition to my liturgical year book collection, I have been soaking up the riches of this book already!! I am excited to make this book apart of my daily liturgical year routine...short enough reflection for even the busiest of days, and the shortest of attention spans! :)
Feast of Saint Agnes:

(books for the day)
(about every other day my sister re-does my letter board, always filling with other shapes and such in the background.)
